Reading the French wheat series

French "Superior" grade wheat is the standard export class of the EU's largest wheat exporter and the benchmark for North and West African tenders. This is a spot FOB quote, so it reflects prompt shipment rather than a forward position.

Thirty scans are archived (one week is missing). The mid climbed from 239.5 to 293.5 USD/MT, a rise of 54 USD/MT or roughly 23%. The low was 232.5 on 9 May; the high was the final print on 29 August. The largest single-week move on the whole wheat board is here: +34 USD/MT on 18 July.

Against the Russian 12.5% series the French line went from a 7-dollar premium in late January to a 76-dollar premium at the end of August. When a Maghreb or West African buyer compares a French cargo with a Black Sea cargo, freight from the Black Sea is the other half of the calculation.
