Reading the French feed barley series

Rouen is France's main grain export port and the reference point for EU feed barley. This is a spot quote, so it tracks prompt availability at the port rather than forward positions.

Twenty-nine scans are archived from 7 February. The series ran from 242 to 269.5 USD/MT (+27.5, about 11%) but not in a straight line: the low of 219.5 was set on 11 July, followed a week later by a 29-dollar rise on 18 July — the largest weekly step in this series — and the high on the final print.

In February French barley was priced 9.5 dollars over Black Sea barley; by the end of August the gap was 64.5 dollars. For Mediterranean feed buyers that spread against the Black Sea line, net of freight, is the whole comparison.
