Reading the Black Sea–China freight series

Black Sea to China is the longest corridor on the board: a Panamax voyage through Suez and the Indian Ocean of roughly a month. Corn, barley and wheat all move on it in some seasons, but it competes with much shorter hauls from Australia, Brazil and the US Pacific coast.

The rate rose from 42 to 80 USD/MT (+38). Low was the first print, high the final print on 29 August. This corridor also shows the only meaningful decline on the freight board — a 7-dollar fall on 2 May — before the summer rise.

China and Bangladesh printed the same start and end levels, though they drifted up to 10 dollars apart in between; Indonesia started 11 dollars higher and finished 2 higher — three Far-East Panamax destinations on the same trunk route.
