Reading the Black Sea–Indonesia freight series

Indonesia is one of the world's largest wheat importers and has no domestic wheat crop; Black Sea wheat competes there mainly with Australian origin. Cargoes arrive in Panamax lots at Jakarta, Surabaya and Cilegon.

The rate rose from 53 to 82 USD/MT (+29, about 55%). It was the highest freight print on the board at the start of the archive and again at the end, with the high set on the final scan after a 12-dollar week.

The Indonesia–China differential narrowed from 11 dollars in January to 2 dollars in August. For a Black Sea wheat seller, freight on this route was well over a third of the FOB price at the end of the archive, versus under a quarter at the start.
