Reading the US Gulf soybean meal series

US 48% protein soybean meal FOB NOLA is the meal reference tied to the CBOT soymeal contract. It is a high-protein (Hipro) meal, the grade compound-feed plants formulate around.

The mid rose from 347.5 to 405 USD/MT (+57.5, about 17%). The low was the first print on 31 January, the high the final print on 29 August. The sharpest week was a 25-dollar fall on 1 August — the same week Argentine beans dropped 25 — before the series recovered to its high.

The US Gulf premium over Argentine 47% meal ranged from 10 to 42.5 dollars and closed at 10; over Brazilian 48% meal it ranged from 2.5 to 40 and closed at 2.5. The Rotterdam series shows the delivered European price for the same US-origin meal.
