Reading the Argentine sorghum series

Sorghum is a feed grain used as a corn substitute, mainly in poultry and pig rations. Argentina is the second-largest exporter after the United States; harvest runs March–June and China has been the dominant destination.

The mid rose from 200 to 232.5 USD/MT (+32.5, about 16%). The low was 197.5 on 7 February; the high, 237.5, came on 16 May with the largest weekly move (+20), after which the series eased slightly into the autumn.

Argentine sorghum traded 7.5 dollars under Argentine corn in late January and 5 dollars over it at the end of August — an unusual inversion, since sorghum normally prices at a discount to corn. That is the check to make before substituting one grain for the other in a formulation.
