Reading the Black Sea–Saudi Arabia freight series

Saudi Arabia is the world's largest feed barley importer and buys wheat through GFSA tenders, taking Panamax cargoes at Jeddah on the Red Sea and Dammam on the Gulf. The route runs through the Suez Canal and, for Dammam, around Arabia.

The rate rose from 43 to 69 USD/MT. Low was the first print on 31 January; the high of 69 was set on 22 August and held. The largest weekly move was +9 on 16 May — a steadier climb than the North African routes, without a single very large step.

This is the rate that links the Black Sea, Australian and Argentine barley series: the three origins compete for the same Saudi buyers, and this leg is what a Black Sea seller adds to its FOB to compare.
