Reading the Black Sea–Jordan freight series

Jordan imports wheat and barley through Aqaba on the Red Sea, mostly via state tenders, and takes Panamax-size cargoes from the Black Sea through the Suez Canal. Feed barley is the main Black Sea commodity on this route.

The rate rose from 28 to 62 USD/MT. The low was the first print, the high the final print on 29 August, and the largest weekly step +13 on 15 August. Unlike the Egypt corridor it did not plateau in the last two scans.

Combined with the Black Sea feed barley series, this rate gives an indicative CFR Aqaba level for barley; freight went from about 12% of the barley FOB price in January to about 30% at the end of August.
