Reading the US Gulf corn series
US No. 2 yellow corn FOB NOLA (New Orleans) is the world's most-quoted corn price and the delivery basis for the CBOT futures market. Its main buyers are Mexico, Japan, Colombia and other Western-Hemisphere destinations; it rarely competes in the Black Sea's core markets.
The series rose from 215 to 247.5 USD/MT (+32.5, about 15%). The low was 207.5 on 13 June — the same week Brazil bottomed — and the high the final print. The largest weekly move was +11 on 11 July.
US Gulf corn was quoted 5–11 dollars under Ukrainian corn from February to April, as much as 27.5 under in May–June, and finished at a 17.5-dollar premium. The PNW series below shows how much the Pacific export channel adds on top of the Gulf price.
